SIGN NOW: A court has declared Trump’s L.A. takeover illegal – but now he’s setting his sights on other cities. Add your name to demand Congress stop his illegal invasions of our cities >>
John, a federal judge has ruled that Trump’s National Guard invasion in Los Angeles was illegal – and issued a dire warning that Trump wants to create “a national police force with the President as its chief.” [1]
Now, D.C. local government is taking Trump to court too – arguing his hostile takeover of the capital is flat-out unconstitutional. [2]
We’ve been saying this all along: Trump wants the power of a dictator, not a president, and he’ll trample all over your rights and mine to get it. Now, instead of backing down, he’s doubling down – even after he lost in court.
Who’s next on his target list? He has threatened Chicago, Baltimore, and New Orleans – overriding local officials and silencing residents who never asked for armed troops patrolling their streets. [3]
History shows that if Congress doesn’t stop him now, Trump will keep escalating until we don’t have a democracy anymore. He’ll keep making up emergencies so he can treat our neighborhoods like war zones – and no city will be off limits.
Sign the Petition: Demand Congress stop Trump’s authoritarian military invasions of our cities before it’s too late >>
In D.C., Trump declared a phony “state of emergency” to strip residents of their local control and install his allies. [4]
In Los Angeles, he deployed troops against the will of the governor and mayor. [5]
And now, a leaked memo confirms Trump has already sent the military into Chicago – with more troops arriving soon. [6]
If it’s anything like his occupation of Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., deploying the National Guard won’t do a thing to make people any safer – but will instead violate residents’ rights, militarize our communities, and threaten his political opponents to fall in line.
Trump’s team is saying the quiet part out loud – with his lawyers essentially arguing that he has broad authority to ignore the Constitution and deploy troops against Americans whenever and wherever he wants. [7]
The court flatly rejected that claim, ruling that his use of the National Guard in Los Angeles broke the law. Now Trump has appealed the ruling – and could take the fight all the way to the Supreme Court in hopes of cementing this dangerous power grab. [8]
Trump thinks he has unchecked power to send troops anywhere he wants – including where you live. Tell Congress to stop him now >>
We need to make it clear that we are not, and will never be, a dictatorship. But stopping Trump’s authoritarian takeover of our cities will take all of us raising our voices together – right now.
Thanks for all you do,
The team at Common Cause
