1) More Evidence That the Jobs Numbers Are Unreliable

We need accurate and reliable jobs estimates from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and we aren't getting them. One of the surveys, the survey of firms, found 22,000 net new jobs in August. The other survey, of households, estimates 288,000 jobs. One is bullish; one is bearish.

Which is right?

Then there are the jobs revisions report today. They now total nearly 500,000 downward revisions from original headline numbers.

The same problems at the BLS that started three years ago still haven’t been fixed and are arguably getting worse. And in four days we’re going to get the annual benchmark which is estimated to be another downward revision of over half a million jobs.

The Senate needs to immediately confirm EJ Antoni to fix this agency and give us accurate numbers.

2) Anybody Ready for Some Football?

Just in time for the opening kickoff, an amazing headline on the latest valuation of the Dallas Cowboys:
[link removed]

And the Cowboys aren't even America's team anymore. Imagine how valuable the Bears would be if they could put a winning team on the field. NFL team valuations are up an estimated 18% from last year!

The owners and players did their best to try to ruin the NFL with DEI and wokism and endless instant replay challenges and quarterbacks taking a knee for the national anthem, yet the league is more popular than ever.

As our friend Wayne Allyn Root, the National radio talk show host, puts it: "No one will ever take the NFL away! You just can't kill it. It's in our blood. You can kill Bud Light and Target, and Cracker Barrel. But you can't hurt the NFL, because men love it like they love their family. It's in our soul."

3) One of the Geniuses Teaching at an Elite Ivy League University

This is our weekly "don't know whether to laugh or cry" segment:

We're not sure who's dumber in this case: Professor Pistor or the people at Columbia Law School who hired her.

4) Quote of the Day

Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia is a graduate of Harvard Law School and came close to being elected Vice President on Hillary Clinton's ticket in 2016. But his outburst at a Foreign Relations Committee hearing this week on where our "inalienable rights" come from suggests he doesn't understand the core of America's founding as the land of the free.

"The notion that rights don't come from laws and don't come from the government, but come from the Creator -- that's what the Iranian government believes," Kaine said. "It's a theocratic regime that bases its rule on Sharia law and targets Sunnis, Bahá'ís, Jews, Christians and other religious minorities."

"And they do it because they believe that they understand what natural rights are from their Creator. So the statement that our rights do not come from our laws or our governments is extremely troubling."

Thanks to Ted Cruz for straightening Kaine out:

The American people are clearly on Cruz's side in this debate. Last year, the pollster Scott Rasmussen found that 78% of voters thought people have "natural rights" that cannot legitimately be taken away by any government. Only 15% disagreed and said individual rights and freedoms come from the government.

5) Now Can We Finally Repeal the Sherman Antitrust Act?

Here's a revealing Wall Street Journal headline yesterday:
[link removed]

No kidding.

It only took the courts and the lawyers 100 years to realize that markets move almost infinitely faster than the government. Antitrust rules are the legal system's version of Wile E. Coyote trying to catch the Roadrunner.

In the case of Google, this is a company whose search engine has created trillions of dollars of consumer surplus - an estimated $17,000 per user per year.
[link removed]

We have an idea. Repeal the Sherman Antitrust Act - which we would argue has been the most harmful regulatory contraption of all time.

In virtually every case the government regulators have brought - starting with the infamous case breaking up Standard Oil, through high-profit suits against AT&T, Microsoft, IBM, and Apple - these supposed monopolists weren't gouging consumers, they were rapidly lowering prices and expanding affordability.

Believe it or not, there was even a case not long ago accusing Intel of being a monopoly. Amazing. One day the politicians accuse Intel of making too much money, and the next thing you know the "monopoly" is losing so much money they need a taxpayer bailout.

In a free market, profits are GOOD and the bad actors of the economy are not the companies that have "excessive" profits, but the ones that have excessive losses.
