8 elite athletes. 3 days of endurance. 200km+ of swimming. One clear message to government: we must end sewage pollution now.
This week, the Thames Swim Against Sewage made waves across the nation — and the press.
With MPs returning from summer recess this week, we wanted to make sure our demand for clean water was waiting for them at Westminster. 😉
🏊♀️ The team powered through a nonstop relay — day and night, battling exhaustion, sore muscles and dodgy stomachs. A truly epic feat of endurance in the fight for clean water.
💩 But the biggest obstacle wasn’t physical. At Slough, Henley and Marlow, we spotted CSOs spewing sewage on our live map, forcing the swimmers to stop. Special shout-out to Thames Water for the perfectly timed live demonstration of why we need to end sewage pollution. Couldn’t have staged it better ourselves.
✊ The journey finished with an overwhelming surge of people power: a flotilla of kayaks and a boat leading the swimmers from Putney to Westminster. A defiant call that it’s time to end the sewage scandal once and for all.
