Small businesses closing forever. Families can't afford groceries. People fleeing overseas…

,

Christopher Luxon has lost control of the economy.

Across New Zealand, small business owners are closing their doors forever. Families agonise over climbing bills. Parents tell me they can’t find work for the first time in their adult lives. Young people tell me their friends have all left – and they're planning to follow.

The numbers are devastating. Under Christopher Luxon, there are 36,000 fewer people in work. In the last year alone 125,000 New Zealanders left, and 2,700 businesses shut down – the highest in a decade. One in eight Auckland retail shops sit empty.

These aren't just numbers on a page. They’re families packing up and leaving the country. They’re local shops closing their doors for good. They're dreams destroyed, life savings wiped out, years of hard work gone.

Walk through any of our cities and you'll see more people sleeping rough – in cars, tents, doorways. People who deserve dignity, forced into desperation.

This isn't the New Zealand we know. This is Christopher Luxon's New Zealand.

Christopher Luxon is making life worse for New Zealanders. Not because he can't fix things – but because he won't. National’s priorities are crystal clear: property speculators over families, overseas investors over small businesses, fossil fuel companies over your power bills.

This is the most out of touch Prime Minister I have ever seen. He doesn't understand your worries about your family or your future. Worse – he has no plan to turn things around.

No matter what we do for a living or where we live, most of us want pretty similar things. Good jobs that pay enough to build a life on, healthcare you can rely on, a warm home you can afford, and real action on the cost of living.

That is exactly what Labour will prioritise. We will build an economy that works for everyone – where every Kiwi has a future right here at home.

We will need to make some bold decisions that put New Zealanders first. And in the coming months, I'll be outlining exactly how we'll do it.

New Zealand can't afford three more years of National. Labour is ready to lead.

Stay tuned.
Chris
