This Week’s Topline

Should an Extremist Band be Banned?

[link removed]

Photo posted to Kneecap’s X account, showing a band member wearing a “We are all Palestine Action” shirt.

Kneecap, an Irish hip-hop trio, has made headlines for their onstage anti-Israel comments, support of designated terrorist organizations and pro-BDS activities. Just weeks ago, Kneecap cancelled its sold-out tour of the US amid a legal battle and pushback concerning their uninhibited support for extremist organizations in their activism. Among the trail of incidents...

- During their performance at the April 2025 Coachella music festival, Kneecap displayed the message “Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people... It is being enabled by the US.”
- UK counter-terrorism police opened investigations into Kneecap after videos of the band promoting political violence and terrorism surfaced. These included a video where a band member stated, “The only good Tory is a dead Tory. Kill your local MP.”
Kneecap exemplifies how cultural influence and a public platform can be weaponized to proliferate extremism.

Mixed Messages in Washington: The U.S. House Appropriations Committee advanced a funding bill that would bar federal dollars from going to universities that fail to address antisemitism on campus, requiring schools to adopt explicit anti-antisemitism policies and sanction those who engage in antisemitic acts. At the same time, the bill slashes nearly $50 million from the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR), which enforces Title VI protections. Jewish groups welcomed the tough stance on campus antisemitism but warned that cutting OCR’s budget undermines enforcement. “We appreciate the committee’s focus on the crisis of antisemitism in
education,” said ADL’s Lauren Wolman. “But if Congress simultaneously defunds the very office charged with investigating and enforcing Title VI, those consequences may never be realized.”

The Party for Socialism and Liberation: The Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) is a socialist political party in the United States that incorporates virulent anti-Zionism as a core organizing principle. In the first 18 months after Hamas’ 10/7 terrorist attack, PSL sponsored or co-sponsored over 1,700 anti-Israel rallies around the U.S.; the majority of these rallies featured antisemitic rhetoric, expressions of support for Hamas’ attack and belligerent calls to “smash Zionism.” Some PSL events also included on-the-ground harassment.

Pushing the UN to Condemn Hamas for Sexual Violence: ADL, working alongside partner organizations, has contributed to a historic milestone in international accountability: Hamas was finally added to the Secretary General’s list of parties credibly suspected of being responsible for patterns of rape or sexual violence in armed conflict — something we at ADL have been advocating for over the last 22 months. Our coordinated multi-organizational efforts maintained consistent pressure on the UN system, and led to this decision that helped break international silence surrounding Hamas’ use of sexual violence as a weapon of war.

The @NewYorker’s decision to platform Hasan Piker is the latest example of mainstream media normalizing his brand of antisemitism and anti-Zionism. Piker’s toxic and extreme rhetoric opposing Zionism and the Jewish state normalizes #antisemitism, reinforces bigotry, and launders terror — and it has no place at a conference devoted to prominent influencers.

BDS activists have called on @Microsoft to cut its ties with Israel while invoking “Worker Intifada” rhetoric. ADL and @jlensnetwork stand with companies that reject efforts to demonize and delegitimize Israel, and those who do business there. We urge Microsoft to continue building safe spaces for Jewish employees and all employees.

We condemn the theft of a mezuzah (prayer scroll affixed to Jewish homes) from a student’s doorway at NYU — a hateful act that demands accountability. We commend @nyuniversity for swiftly investigating, supporting the student and reaffirming its rejection of antisemitism. Such moments call for clear moral leadership. #NotOnMyCampus.

We are horrified by reports that an Orthodox Jewish woman and child were allegedly chased by a person with a metal pipe, yelling “kill the Jews” in Queens #NY. Nobody should be subject to hate and intimidation based on their religion.
