Suicide Awareness Month
Suicide Awareness Month [ [link removed] ]
Each year, the month of September is recognized as Suicide Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma and promote mental health resources for individuals in need. Suicide remains a significant public health concern, affecting people of all ages, backgrounds and communities. It is important to emphasize that help is available and that no one has to face their struggles alone.
Local programs such as Kendall County 211 [ [link removed] ] play a vital role in supporting community members by connecting individuals and families to essential health and human services. These services include housing support, rental assistance, utility aid, mental health counseling, food programs and benefits, transportation, senior services, substance abuse resources, veteran services and more. Whether facing an emergency or seeking everyday assistance, these resources provide crucial support when it is most needed.
If you or someone you know is struggling, do not hesitate to seek help. Reaching out is a sign of strength, and support is available for those who need it.

Hydrant Flushing

Hydrant Flushing Underway Through Sept. 30
The Oswego Public Works Department is flushing water mains now (Sept. 2) through Sept. 30, weather permitting. Crews will post signs in neighborhoods ahead of flushing—please keep an eye out.
Why it matters: Hydrant flushing is essential for maintaining water quality. It helps remove mineral buildup, improves flow in dead-end mains, and ensures your water stays fresh and safe. This routine maintenance is recommended by the Illinois EPA.
Laundry tip: To avoid rust discoloration, do laundry before 7:30 a.m. or after 7 p.m. on flushing days.
If you see discolored water: Run your cold water for a few minutes until it clears. Be sure it’s running clear before using hot water.
Thank you for your patience as we work to keep Oswego’s water system running smoothly!
