Elizabeth and Becca

Hi John — Elizabeth here, Becca’s wife.

I want to take a minute to write about public service.

Becca started her career as a middle school civics teacher, and my first law job was in my local county attorney’s office. We both believe in giving back to the communities that have given us so much. When she was a teacher, I saw firsthand the dedication, sacrifice, and passion that Becca poured into serving Vermonters. She still brings that fire — and fun — to her work today.

But I won’t lie to you — public office takes a toll right now, not just on Becca, but on all of us.

It’s easy to get hooked by the outrage generators. But we have to stay strong and steady. It really is an all-hands-on-deck moment in America. Each of us must do what we can, and for Becca, that means telling the truth even when it's uncomfortable, and holding leaders accountable when they shortchange working folks.

Becca and I have been together for more than 21 years, and I’ve never seen her back away from a hard conversation. She’s always believed in fighting for what’s right, and she’ll stand up to anyone to get it done.

It would mean so much to me if you would stand with us now.
