Dear FAMMily,

Late summer is a time of deep work and preparation for legislative advocates. Most legislative sessions are over now, with some notable exceptions like California, Michigan, and Pennsylvania still going on. FAMM state policy staff, our members, and partners use this time for 2026 strategic planning, coalition building, research, and writing bills and other materials.  Here’s your quarterly round-up of our state work. Please know that FAMM also launched a new campaign this summer: Life on Lockdown: A Growing Crisis. For the last two years, we have noticed a significant uptick in the outreach we have received regarding lockdowns in state and federal prisons. We know how hard lockdowns are on incarcerated people and their families. That is why we are working on finding solutions to this problem while creating more transparency on the use of lockdowns so that incarcerated people, their families, and the public are not in the dark about this critical issue.  If you missed our recent virtual briefing on lockdowns, you can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtmutUezcSY&t=34s

Please sign the petition by going to https://act.famm.org/a/lockdown-crisis.

If you have a story to share regarding prison lockdowns, please share it with us here: https://act.famm.org/a/%20lockdown-experience. Incarcerated members can write to us at:
