Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

September marks Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, a time to shed light on the urgent need for compassion, understanding, and support for LGBTQ+ young people. According to our 2024 U.S. National Survey on LGBTQ+ Youth Mental Health, 39% of LGBTQ+ young people seriously considered suicide in the past year — including nearly half of transgender and nonbinary young people. More than 1 in 10 attempted suicide.

Learn With Love Episode 4: Mat & Haylin
Behind these numbers are real lives, each deserving of hope, care, and safety. The latest episode of Learn With Love shares the story of a mother and son in Honolulu, Hawaii: Haylin, a marriage and family therapist, and Mat, her 17-year-old son who is transgender.

Once raised in a conservative, religious household, Haylin opens up about her journey toward accepting and supporting Mat — even starting her own nonprofit clinic, Spill the Tea Cafe, to provide welcoming mental health services for young people in her community.
