Weekly Poll

I ask. You answer.

Question: Do you support removing illegal immigrants who overstay their visas?

The Biden-Harris administration’s open borders policies allowed a historic number of people to cross into the United States illegally. Equally concerning is that a staggering number of people enter the country lawfully and then overstay, often with little or no consequences.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, nearly 800,000 foreign nationals were suspected of having overstayed their visas during fiscal year 2022, and that number was north of half a million for fiscal year 2023. Even left-leaning groups have taken notice: The Center for Migration Studies estimates that the cumulative number of visa overstays in the country could be as high as 4.8 million.

Read more here about my work to ensure we catch those overstaying their visas before it is too late.

August Recap

During the month of August, my staff and I traveled across the Third Congressional District of Mississippi. We met with  local leaders, toured local businesses, and ensured that people know the impact of President Trump’s Budget Reconciliation Bill on local communities. See some of the highlights from August below:

I wanted to share a kind note of thanks I received earlier this month from a grateful constituent. I am incredibly thankful for my staff and their hard work.

“Good morning, Michael, I wanted you to know one of our residents called your office about getting him a flag for The Orchard. They were so kind and so sweet. He asked me to reach out and just let you know what an amazing team you have in place. We had a beautiful flag raising ceremony this morning. Thank you again for making this possible.”

I recently met with the Mississippi Association of Realtors to talk about the positive outlook for the economy and the need for the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates. I personally want to thank Government Relations Director, Rob Pillow, for allowing me to meet with this great group.

I was honored to meet with the newly-elected Mayor of Jackson, John Horhn.  John has a long history of public service that he brings to the Mayor’s office. Mayor Horhn served for over 30 years as a state Senator for Hinds and Madison County. I am excited about the plans he has for our Capital City, and I look forward to working with Mayor Horhn and his team.

Remembering Hurricane Katrina 20 Years Later

As I reflect on the 20th anniversary of Katrina, I am reminded that natural disasters remain a reality for our state. Whether it is hurricanes, tornadoes or flooding, Mississippians know the importance of standing shoulder to shoulder in the face of adversity. Our Coast Guard, first responders and National Guard remain on the front lines, and our communities continue to show the same spirit of service and sacrifice that carried us through in 2005. Read more from the Mississippi Delegation here.

I am honored to highlight the service of my staffer General Harold Cross (Ret.) during Hurricane Katrina:

Thank you, General Cross, for your service to our state. Your leadership 20 years ago led the way in Mississippi’s recovery from Hurricane Katrina, the worst natural disaster in U.S. history. On the 20th anniversary of Katrina’s landfall, we remember everyone who lost lives and property and those who sacrificed for the recovery.

Supporting USDA’s Sweeping Plans to Protect the United States from New World Screwworm

I am thankful to see Secretary Rollins take decisive action to combat the New World Screwworm. Building a sterile fly production facility in Edinburg, Texas, will put America first and end our reliance on other countries. Read more here.
