John,
We’re staying loud and in the streets. And that was the case on Labor Day.
I’ve been proud to join striking workers on picket lines who are rising up for safe working conditions, living wages, better benefits, and human dignity. In Congress I will keep pushing for workers’ right to organize without fear of retaliation, paid medical and family leave, affordable childcare, universal healthcare, and higher wages—including raising the tipped minimum wage to a full livable wage.
But right now, the authoritarian-in-chief is busy firing civil servants and attacking the collective bargaining rights of federal workers. The AFL-CIO has called this “the single biggest act of union-busting in American history.”
I know how important labor unions are for working people and for building the middle class. My family received healthcare for the first time when my father joined the United Auto Workers union, so I’ve seen firsthand how labor rights can transform families and communities.
Trump is taking away life-saving programs that working people rely on, all while handing tax breaks to billionaires and attacking our immigrant neighbors. His ICE goons are targeting worksites and arresting construction crews and farm workers. Many immigrants are union members, and we need to stand up for all workers, no matter their race or ethnicity.
This Labor Day, I was proud to march alongside the SEIU and rally with federal workers, autoworkers, the Teamsters, and the teachers union. Click here to check out photos from Labor Day.

Together we’re stronger and more powerful than those who want to divide us. We’ll keep demanding rights and justice for all.
In solidarity,
Rashida
