Domestic and care workers in Chicago, Baltimore and DC are at risk. Tell Congress to end federal control of the DC police force.

John,

It’s been confirmed that the federal militarized takeover of Washington DC is spreading nationwide, with federal agents and paramilitary forces set to arrive in Chicago and Baltimore any day.

In DC, masked, armed federal agents have overtaken our neighborhoods. More than 1,000 people have been arrested — taken from street corners, homes, bikes, and cars. The military has taken control over Union Station – a transit hub thousands use every day to get to work and school. Federal control of the DC police has taken power away from local elected leaders.

This is a direct attack on our care communities and on our democracy, plain and simple. Countless domestic workers are afraid to go to work, take their kids to school, or get food from the store.

We cannot stand by and allow the federal government to spread fear from city to city with armed patrols grabbing people off the street. Which is why we need to show massive grassroots support for a joint resolution that would end federal control of DC’s police force.

Will you send an urgent message to Congress that it MUST draw a line in the sand and end the federal government’s control of the DC police force NOW?

Graphic saying: Tell Congress: Troops out of DC

Since the federal government seized DC’s police force from local control and militarized its streets, swarms of agents surround cars and homes. Once bustling streets and restaurants are deserted. And meanwhile, care workers are losing work, children are missing school, and too many aging parents and people with disabilities are left alone without the care workers they rely on every day to get out of bed, bathe and make it to appointments.

Meanwhile, the White House is saying that its takeover is a big “success” and is planning to order armed troops to Chicago and Baltimore. It’s chilling – and a clear signal that DC is just the beginning of a nationwide takeover of our streets.

Why is our government wasting billions in taxpayer dollars deploying troops to our cities instead of helping parents pay for childcare, making healthcare affordable, or helping people save for a home?

Let’s ensure our representatives hear from all of us loud and clear that it CANNOT let the federal occupation of our capitol continue.

Will you urgently add your name to demand Congress pass a resolution to take DC’s local police back from the federal government immediately?

Dignity, Unity, Power

The majority of domestic workers sit at the center of some of our nation’s most decisive issues because of who they are and what they do: they are women – mostly women of color, immigrants, mothers, and low-wage workers. They are impacted by almost every policy affecting the future of our economy, democracy and country.

Domestic workers can lead us toward a new, inclusive vision for the future for all of us -- and your grassroots support is the fuel that can get us there.
