The Story Behind the Label.
Made in Italy. A marker of prestige and a global shorthand for luxury. The label paints a picture for the consumer: a silk scarf from Tuscany, a leather handbag from Lombardy, rooted in generations of artisanal craftsmanship and family-run workshops. If it is Made in Italy, we assume it is made with care, tradition and integrity.
But our latest blog uncovers how systemic labour abuses have infiltrated Italy’s luxury supply chains for decades: from mafia control in Tuscany’s leather trade, to migrant workers trapped in sweatshops producing goods for global fashion houses. Today, with major brands like Dior, Armani and Valentino facing court rulings over labour exploitation, the illusion of ethical luxury is beginning to unravel.
Read the full story and explore how we can look beyond the label to stop trafficking and exploitation.

Fashion Forward!
We’re excited to announce that our Founder and President, Ruth Dearnley OBE, will be speaking at Fashion Forward Week on September 9th at 5:30pm (NYC), in a session moderated by Vanessa Coppes, Editor-in-Chief of BELLA Media + Co.
More than an event, Fashion Forward Week is a movement — “Reimagining NYFW through storytelling, innovation, inclusivity and sustainability.” It’s where designers, buyers, journalists, and fashion lovers come together to connect, learn, and imagine a future where fashion leads with purpose.
At STOP THE TRAFFIK, we are honoured to be the official charity partner for this inaugural event. Fashion plays a powerful role in shaping culture, and together we can help ensure the future of fashion is ethical, inclusive, and free from exploitation.
