Chase Man Sentenced for First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct

*LANSING* – Yesterday, Jody Lee Brocker, 55, of Chase was sentenced to 150 months to 20 years’ incarceration for sexually assaulting a minor relative at his residence in 2024, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Brocker, who was charged by the Lake County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, pled guilty to one count of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct in July.

“I am grateful that my office was able to assist the Lake County Prosecuting Attorney's Office to secure justice for the victim in this case,” Nessel said. “Throughout my time in office, it has been important to me that we step in and help local prosecutors and their offices, and I am proud that we have done so during times of vacancies like this, by providing appellate services to 50 counties, and assisting with cases across the state upon request or referral. However, with proposed budget cuts threatening our resources, taking on additional prosecutorial responsibilities could place real strain on what could be a limited budget and demanding workload for our prosecutors. Protecting Michigan counties and crime victims has always been this Department’s priority, and it is my hope that the Legislature passes a budget that reflects that commitment.”

The Department of Attorney General began managing and supporting prosecutorial functions in Lake County following the resignation of the Lake County Prosecuting Attorney in early June. The Department will continue to support prosecutorial functions in Lake County until the prosecuting attorney vacancy is filled or until October 1 in the event of a state government shutdown or significant budget cuts affecting the Michigan Department of Attorney General.
