Hi, Donald Trump has launched an all-out effort to rig the midterms — and there's a real chance that next year's elections may not be free and fair. Trump is preparing to issue an executive order to ban mail-in voting, and says he will also require all voters to display a voter ID at the polls.1 Election experts even warn that Trump may attempt to station ICE agents in front of polling places to frighten away voters in Democratic precincts.2 All of that would be blatantly illegal, but when has that ever stopped him? Meanwhile, Texas rammed through a sketchy mid-decade gerrymander to steal five congressional seats, and Republicans are pushing to gerrymander other red states as well.3 House Republicans also passed legislation requiring voters to show a birth certificate or passport matching the name on their current ID when they register.4 We've already mobilized tens of thousands of people to contact Congress and defend the midterms. Now, in the face of these rising threats, we must ramp it up. If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately.
Trump is hell-bent on rigging the midterms because he knows there's a very good chance that Republicans will lose any free and fair election. Trump's net approval ratings have dropped by 20 points. His signature "One Big Beautiful Bill" is wildly unpopular. Even on issues that have been traditional strengths for him, like his handling of the economy, voters now give him negative marks.5 For Trump to continue his authoritarian assault on the Constitution and the rule of law, he needs to keep Congress in Republican control. That's why he's going all out to rig the midterms for his party. Demand Progress has been fighting to defend election integrity since our founding, but we've never faced a threat like this.
