1) Google's Half-Win in Court

A federal judge's ruling yesterday in the government's antitrust lawsuit against Google reminds us of the old saw that growing old isn't so bad when you consider the alternative.

That was apparently the attitude of investors as Google's stock rallied yesterday on the news that the courts won't order the popular Google Chrome web browser to be divested from the company. Headlines like this one ran everywhere:

But wait a minute.

Judge Amit Mehta's verdict against Google will require the world's premier search engine company to "share" its search data with rivals "to give competitors a shot at building the scale they need to offer better search results." as the Wall Street Journal put it. ([link removed])

The Judge's 200+ page kindergarten-logic can be synthesized in one sentence: you built it. Now you have to share it with the rest of the world. It's only fair.

What's next: a requirement that Popeyes "share" its secret fried chicken recipe with KFC and Bojangles?

These kinds of rulings have massive disincentive effects on innovation and invention. They punish success and profitability in this "everyone gets a trophy" world we live in. We now have a government that gives $10 billion taxpayer money to a loser like Intel and the next day trashes Google for making more than $1 trillion for American shareholders - the scoundrels!

This absurd case has had Google locked up in court for nearly a decade. Can you imagine the dead-weight loss of the legal bills imposed on Google and taxpayers for this judicial witch hunt? Ironically, this latest ruling comes just a week after President Trump issued a social media message urging that we must do everything we can as a nation to preserve America's tech supremacy and "our great tech companies."

The only real winner here in this lawsuit debacle (other than the attorneys) is China, whose political leaders aspire to cripple Google, but the government lawyers here in the U.S. are doing their job for them.

2) It’s Official Biden Made Poor Poorer and Trump Made Everyone Richer

Our new study ([link removed]) , based on our advance estimates of Census Bureau data on income shows big money gains for all income groups under Trump, and almost no gains for the poor and middle class under Biden. You can get a summary of the findings in today’s major feature piece in the New York Post. ([link removed])

The findings resoundingly contradict the Left’s frequent claims that Trump’s tax and budget policies primarily favored the rich. In truth, the purchasing power of Americans in the bottom quarter of household income rose by 10% during his first White House term. The poor lost income under Biden policies because of the high inflation. Even though his priority was to reduce income inequality, the gap between rich and poor grew wider from 2020-24.

Those income gains under Trump 1.0 likely would have been much higher if COVID lockdowns hadn’t choked off large sectors of the economy in 2020. Also, these numbers in the chart are pre-tax, so when we take into account the Trump 2017 tax cuts, the average family gained about $8,000 in after-tax incomes.

4) America Has A Blue CITY Crime Problem

We're not too enthusiastic about sending federal troops into cities like Chicago and Los Angeles to prevent crime - and neither are the courts. These are local problems.

Progressives are making the case that Trump is unfairly targeting cities in blue states, when some of the worst crime is in red-state cities like Memphis, Houston, and St. Louis. That's a fair point. Trump is wrong to say there "aren't too many" high-crime areas in red states.

There are.

Below are lists based on FBI statistics of the highest crime cities in the nation. Sure enough, many are in red states.

But what ALL of these cities, with a few exceptions, have in common is that they are populated by progressive Democratic voters and ruled by mostly left-wing Democratic mayors and city councils. It’s simply a fact: Murders, robberies, muggings, shootings, and gun violence are much more common in places where Democrats rule and allow thugs to prey on their own citizens.

5) The World Isn't as Bad as the Headlines

What if some of our biggest social problems ... almost disappeared? Would we fully appreciate the progress that represents?

Our friends at Kite & Key Media have put together an educational video reminding us how some of the biggest concerns of just a few decades ago quietly receded.
[link removed]

Take teen pregnancies. Since 1990, they have fallen 78% to an all-time low. Or drunk driving. Fatalities have dropped by over 55% since the 1980s and an astonishing 77% among those under age 21. Then there's smoking. At the time of the 1964 Surgeon General's report linking cigarettes with cancer, 43% of adult Americans smoked. That number is now down to 12%.

Of course, the media thrives on bad news and promotes scare tactics. Which is why we bet that some of these numbers are real news to you.
