Miami-Dade, I know many of you have heard that this is a difficult budget year. In fact, it's one of the most challenging in our county’s history, as we closed a $400 million gap created by unprecedented budget pressures and unfunded state mandates. We tackled this challenge with innovation, accountability, and dedication to you - protecting the services you rely on, like public safety, transit, and trash pick-up - while making our government more efficient than ever. And we did so while maintaining our historically low tax rate. Now, we’ve identified additional funding for community priorities that you spoke up about. Watch my recent video explaining more about how we got here and what we are doing.
Sincerely,
Daniella Levine Cava
Mayor, Miami-Dade County

Transforming the way
we move in South Dade
I am thrilled to announce that we will soon launch Metro Express, our new all-electric bus service to South Dade! From Florida City to Dadeland, this brand-new bus express service will speed up your regular commute while you ride on comfortable buses and wait at air-conditioned stations.
This is a game changer for South Dade – and with affordable housing approved along the route, modern stations, and walkable areas, it’s a transit investment built for the future.
Ride it. Share it.
Help shift the way Miami-Dade moves.
Building a Future-Ready Community
Milestones in Affordable Housing
Housing continues to be one of my top priorities to make Miami-Dade more affordable for all. During the last 4 years, we have opened dozens of new projects and broken ground on many others, with nearly 11,000 units brought online and thousands more on the way. Here are some of the latest housing developments in the works:
Alto Tower: Just steps from Miami International Airport, we opened Alto Tower with Blue Sky Communities, adding 84 affordable units for formerly homeless residents, including veterans.
Hibiscus Grove: In West Perrine, we broke ground with Integra Florida on nearly 300 new affordable homes for working families, plus retail space and a community center leased to the West Perrine CRA for $1 a year, blending public-private investment to honor the neighborhood’s history and create more opportunity.
Rainbow Village/Rhapsody Apartments: We began construction with Housing Trust Group on 310 new affordable residences along with resources like a daycare and community center, replacing aging public housing while keeping residents in the heart of historic Overtown.
Perrine Village II: In South Dade, we broke ground on Perrine Village II with Atlantic Pacific Companies, the second phase of a three-phase redevelopment of of the Perrine Villas and Perrine Gardens, which will feature over 900 units when completed.
Bold Investments in Infrastructure
Miami-Dade is growing fast and we are working hard to make sure our infrastructure is keeping up – from our ports to our county facilities.
PortMiami & MIA lead
on economic impact
We recently unveiled a new economic impact study confirming our airport and seaport are some of our state's largest economic engines, generating together more than $242 billion and 1 million jobs — 14% of Florida’s GDP! And through our $9 billion Modernization in Action Plan, MIA is transforming terminals, modernizing elevators and walkways, and advancing major projects every day.
The future of imports
& exports is on the way!
We broke ground on a new Future-Ready Perishables Facility, the nation’s largest of its kind, that will allow our airport and seaport to handle everything from fresh produce and flowers to meats, grains, and medical equipment. This new project will support 200+ jobs and will use state-of-the-art tech to boost our trade capacity, continuing to position our ports as leaders with cutting-edge technology.
Upgrade for Emergency Operations
Miami-Dade stands ready for any weather event or other disaster that comes our way. Now, we're taking preparations to the next level with the Integrated Command & Communications Center (IC3), Miami-Dade’s future home for emergency operations. We broke ground on this 12-story, hurricane-ready building which will serve as a hub for directing emergency operations in crises.
Community Corner
A new home for our shelter pets
I’m proud to share that a new, state-of-the-art animal shelter was approved for development in South Dade. This new center will replace the County’s current overflow shelter in Medley, expanding capacity and signifying a new beginning for shelter pets and staff alike.
Summer Boating Safety
On July 4 weekend, I joined the Lucy Fernandez Foundation to commemorate the passing of “Lucy’s Law,” which enhances boating safety and increases penalties for reckless and impaired boating. In the light of the July 28 sailboat crash near Miami Beach, resulting in the tragic loss of three young girls, we remain more committed than ever to safer waterways, as we keep their bright memories alive.
In Case You Missed It
The recent court ruling halting construction and shutting down operations at Alligator Alcatraz is a victory for our environment, justice and basic human dignity.
🎉On National Intern Day we celebrated the bright and brilliant interns who bring fresh ideas, energy and heart to my office. Thank you for all your hard work this summer! 💼🌟
We recently held Budget town hall meetings across Miami-Dade County to listen to our residents' needs and concerns, and to speak frankly about the fiscal challenges we face and the difficult choices we've had to make.
