John – Donald Trump is destroying every piece of the fabric of this nation that made my story possible. Let me start by telling you a bit about myself. My name is Raja Krisnamoorthi. My story is one of legal immigration and naturalized citizenship. It’s one of public housing, public school, and food stamps. It’s one where an immigrant kid with 29 letters in his name can grow up to be a Congressman, and even stand before you as a candidate for U.S. Senate.  My family moved here from India when I was a baby in search of the American Dream. Growing up in Peoria, I often felt like an outsider because of my identity. My parents spoke Tamil, a South Indian language, most of the time. My mother always dressed in a sari. We ate different food than our neighbors — we even traveled with our rice cooker. But despite our outward differences, the community in Peoria embraced us.  But as hard as my parents worked, we fell on hard times. So, we lived for a time in Public Housing to keep a roof over our heads and depended on SNAP to eat. Thanks to these essential safety net programs, we were able to make it through. That’s something I’ll never take for granted. And eventually, with the help of my community, government programs, and the money I saved working at McDonald's, I went to college and graduated from Law School.  John, growing up, my parents would always say “Think of the greatness of this country. Whatever you do, make sure this country is there for the next families who need it.” That’s why I’ve dedicated my life to public service. Because the next generation deserves to know that the American dream my family lived is still possible – and that their government will be there to help them, not tear them down. But Donald Trump is tearing apart every piece of the fabric of this nation that made my story possible. He’s going after immigrants. He’s devastating SNAP and Public Housing. He’s attacking our public schools and universities. John – I refuse to let him have his way. So now, I’m running for the United States Senate to hold Donald Trump accountable and fight to restore the American dream for hardworking Americans.
