*Gov. Whitmer Welcomes New Regional Headquarters for Astemo Americas*
"The project will create 200 jobs, retain 175, and invest $95 million"
*SAWA, JAPAN* – Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer celebrated a $95 million investment from automotive supplier Astemo Ltd. to create a regional headquarters in Wixom, supporting at least 200 new jobs.
“Today’s investment is further proof that Michigan is open for business and on the move,” said *Governor Whitmer*. “Astemo is investing $95 million to build new headquarters in Wixom, creating 200 good-paying, local jobs. I’ll work with anyone to strengthen Michigan’s auto ecosystem and bring jobs and investments back home to our state. Let’s keep working together to lead and build the future so that more working families can ‘make it’ in Michigan.”
Astemo will build a facility in Wixom to accommodate the physical space needed to showcase the company’s cutting-edge capabilities to attract talent, as well as to increase collaboration with business units and customers. Astemo chose Michigan for its expansion over competing sites in Ohio.
“As a global mega-supplier of automotive components and systems with a specialization in advanced mobility solutions like electric powertrains, chassis systems, and autonomous driving technologies, Astemo’s investment in Wixom cements its presence in Michigan and enhances the state’s standing as the best-in-nation [ [link removed] ] for the automotive industry,” said *Kohei Takeuchi, President & CEO, Astemo, Ltd.*
“The decision by Astemo America to choose Oakland County for its new headquarters and technical center in Wixom is an enormous boost for the 350 people who will work at the automotive supplier and for Oakland County’s status as a prime location for the advanced mobility technology of the future,” said* Oakland County Executive David Coulter. *“And it is always so gratifying to see how successful we can be when state and local leaders collaborate to attract and retain the businesses, like Astemo America, that have so many options to choose from when they’re deciding on where to locate and grow.”
Astemo anticipates hiring over 150 engineer-type positions as part of the 200 jobs coming with its premier regional site in Wixom. The company currently employs over 15,000 employees in North America and 80,000 employees globally. Astemo also proudly offers opportunities for training and/or upskilling through a tuition reimbursement program. “We are proud to welcome such a significant investment from Astemo as Michigan expands and enhances our supply chain and talent capacity for mobility and advanced manufacturing,” said *Quentin L. Messer, Jr., CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).* “By spending time in-market, Team Michigan is deepening relationships by remaining top of mind in a globally competitive environment. We are eager to see the growth and success of this and other Japanese companies as we execute our state’s ‘Make it in Michigan’ economic development strategy investing in People, cultivating Places, and securing Projects of all sizes.”
As part of the selection process, the City of Wixom offered a letter of support for the project.
“The City of Wixom is thrilled that Astemo Americas is considering the City of Wixom for this new investment, including hundreds of new, well-paying jobs,” said *City Manager Steven Brown*. “Wixom has a long history as the home for world-leading automotive suppliers, and we look forward to working with Astemo to build their state-of-the-art facility and welcoming them to our business community.”
This is the second time Governor Whitmer has led an investment mission in Japan, the other being in September 2023 – which, at the time, was the first Michigan governor business visit to Japan since 2017.
