Friend, we were in court over the weekend. Here’s what happened: In the dead of night on a holiday weekend, the Trump administration ripped vulnerable, frightened children from their beds and attempted to return them to danger in Guatemala. At around 2:00 in the morning, we filed an emergency lawsuit to stop the Trump administration from unlawfully expelling hundreds of unaccompanied children from the United States. It’s a dark and dangerous moment for this country when our government chooses to target vulnerable children, even as young as ten years old, and attempts to deny them their most basic legal right to present their case before an immigration judge. The Constitution and federal laws provide robust protections to unaccompanied minors specifically because of the unique risks they face. Just hours after our filing, a district court issued an emergency Temporary Restraining Order stopping the Trump administration’s unlawful deportation plans for now. We are heartened that the Court prevented this injustice from occurring before hundreds of children suffered irreparable harm, but our fight is far from over. We are determined to use every legal tool at our disposal to force the administration to respect the law and not send any child to danger. Donate today to support our legal fight.
