A Note from the Desk of Congresswoman Julia Letlow

I’ve just concluded a busy and productive month spent back home in the Fifth District hearing from constituents and connecting with local leaders on the issues that matter most to Louisianans. I always enjoy hearing directly from constituents from all walks of life and bringing the stories I hear on the road back to Washington to continue moving Louisiana forward.

As we head back to Washington D.C. soon, I’ll continue my efforts to make Louisiana’s Fifth District the best place to live, work, and raise a family as we stay focused on growing the economy, expanding access to quality education and fighting for taxpayers.

One of the key tools to achieve these goals is President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill, which delivers meaningful tax relief for families and small businesses, strengthens our farm safety net, and cuts wasteful spending.

Please feel free to always reach out to my office directly when you have questions, comments, or concerns. Our team is always accessible through our website by clicking here. We are here to serve you!

Sincerely,

Working in the 5th District

I always look forward to being home in Louisiana’s 5th District, where spending time with my constituents gives me the chance to listen, learn, and bring your input back to Washington. This August work period I touched every corner of the 5th District, from Baton Rouge to Monroe to the Florida Parishes. To highlight a few stops, I visited S&W Foods in Hammond to meet with the owners and employees of this family-owned business. In Concordia Parish, I spoke with farmers, small business owners, and families about the positive impact President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill will have on their communities through tax relief and stronger local economies. I also made stops in Baton Rouge, Monroe, and many places in-between to see education in action and hold listening sessions with constituents and local leaders. These conversations ensure the policies we advance in Washington truly reflect the needs of Louisiana’s businesses, workers, and families.

Visiting Schools in Baton Rouge

I was honored to join Department of Education Secretary Linda McMahon on the first stop of her nationwide ‘Returning Education to the States’ tour in Baton Rouge. We toured Great Hearts Harveston Charter School to celebrate the role that our state, communities, and teachers have played in Louisiana’s recent educational improvement. But for far too long, the federal bureaucracy has held us back, with too many of our tax dollars staying up in D.C. instead of coming down to the states where they belong. I'm thrilled to partner with the Trump Administration to downsize the Department of Education and send that power and funding back to the states. Click here to view a video I filmed with Secretary McMahon, where we talk about the role charter schools can play in improving education.

Delivering Appropriations Wins for Louisiana

As the only member of Congress in the House of Representatives from Louisiana serving on the House Appropriations Committee, I am proud to give our state a strong seat at the table in Washington. While I believe too many of your tax dollars are sent to Washington, my role allows me to ensure those dollars are returned to benefit our communities here at home. I was honored to be in Monroe to celebrate the launch of St. Francis Medical Center’s new power plant. This $48 million investment will strengthen emergency preparedness, provide patients with greater peace of mind, and enhance the delivery of healthcare across Northeast Louisiana. I was proud to help secure federal funding for multiple generators that made this critical project possible.

Growing Our Louisiana Economy

I always look forward to celebrating the progress we’re making to improve Louisiana’s economy. I was honored to join Governor Jeff Landry, Louisiana Tech University, and Radiance Technologies in Ruston to announce a transformative $80 million investment that will bring a secure microchip packaging facility to North Louisiana. This project will create 150 new high-paying jobs and open the door for hundreds more opportunities in Louisiana. With the strong partnership of Louisiana Tech, Governor Landry’s Administration, and our local leaders, Radiance’s decision to expand here represents not only a major win for our economy, but also an important step toward reversing the brain drain and keeping our best and brightest right here at home.

Delivering Results for Louisiana Farmers

I'll always fight for the hardworking farmers and producers who grow our food supply. Agriculture is the backbone of our rural communities, and unfair trade practices have a direct effect on our agricultural economy. President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill is a major win for Louisiana’s farmers and families. This legislation delivers meaningful tax relief, strengthens the farm safety net, and provides critical support for crops like rice, cotton, corn, and soybeans. It also includes provisions from my Drought Assistance Improvement Act to speed up and strengthen disaster relief and help ranchers manage prolonged droughts. By expanding write-offs for farm equipment, making the 20% business income deduction permanent, and preserving the death tax exemption so family farms can be passed to the next generation, the bill ensures our farmers can keep more of what they earn.
