Judge rules Trump’s use of military in Los Angeles violated federal law
- A federal judge blocked ([link removed] ) the Trump administration from using the military in immigration raids or law enforcement operations in California, ruling President Donald Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops in Los Angeles earlier this year violated a federal law.
But is Trump’s military invasion coming anyway?
- Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) said ([link removed] ) today he believes Trump has already begun staging the Texas National Guard for deployment in the state, and that his office has been told Immigration and Customs Enforcement will begin major immigration raids in Chicago.

Texas GOPer apologizes for racist comments unearthed by Democracy Docket
- Texas State Sen. Charles Perry, a Republican lawmaker who recently blocked Democrats’ effort to filibuster the state’s gerrymander, today apologized ([link removed] ) for suggesting in a 2022 hearing that a way to deal with immigrants might be “shoot, shovel and shut up.” The apology comes after Democracy Docket surfaced ([link removed] ) the comments last week.
Trump goes full steam on his vendetta against mail-in voting
- Trump spent part of his Saturday night posting that he wants to sign new executive orders aimed ([link removed] ) at requiring voter ID and banning mail-in ballots. Both steps would be unconstitutional.
- He also said ([link removed] ) multiple times during a press conference today that a reason he was moving Space Command from Colorado to Alabama was because Colorado allows “crooked” mail-in voting. The comments raise the concern that Trump could try to use his power over federal government resources as leverage to get states to comply with unconstitutional voting orders.
GOP war on voting leaves voters with disabilities as collateral damage
- For decades, protecting the voting rights of people with disabilities was a bipartisan priority. Now, as the GOP restricts voting access, those long-standing protections are already ([link removed] ) beginning to erode.
A win for South Dakota voters
- A federal judge struck down ([link removed] ) a GOP-backed South Dakota law Tuesday that would have made it harder for citizens to put issues on the ballot, ruling the law was unconstitutional and a violation of free speech.
