As our nation experiences a series of convulsions, I am grateful that many Americans are finding enduring wisdom in Russell Kirk's writing. These are turbulent times in need of perennial wisdom. Fortunately, a variety of writers recently wrote important articles in just that spirit.

One of them is by Erik Bootsma, an architect in Virginia. He assesses the current state of architecture and urban planning ([link removed]) in a companion piece to Russell's classic essay, “The Architecture of Servitude and Boredom ([link removed]) .” This essay has become a favorite among Kirk readers, appealing both to a wide audience of those interested in the vitality and beauty of their neighborhoods as well as specifically to those active in the revival of traditional architectural styles.

Among the four general principles of urban restoration that Russell suggests, the first is especially prescient:

Dimitri Solzhenitsyn, writing in National Review, contributed a thought-provoking article that draws upon Russell’s thought for guidance concerning an urgent challenge: "What Police Reformers Can Learn from Russell Kirk ([link removed]) .”

Vigen Guroian, a Kirk Center Senior Fellow, has published his speech given at an Edmund Burke Society of America conference at Belmont Abbey College: "Burke and Kirk on Radical Ideology in Modern Times ([link removed]) ."

Finally, we are now accepting applications to the Wilbur Fellows residential program ([link removed]) for the fall and spring semesters. If you know a college or graduate student who is taking time off, please let them know about this unique study program. It is a para-academic experience much needed in our time.
