Not the News

What to Know: According to some in the media, Texas has “lost control of the virus” and is “fast becoming the new epicenter of America’s pandemic.”

The TPPF Take: This simply isn’t so.

“While there has been a surge in positive test results for COVID-19, Texas has the most estimated recoveries and the lowest case fatality rate in the nation,” says TPPF’s Vance Ginn. “Let’s stop the media hysteria and be safe and calm, as there are declining fatalities and abundant hospital resources.”

What to Know: The Wall Street Journal reports on two studies linking a rise in COVID-19 cases to mass transit.

The TPPF Take: TPPF’s Chuck DeVore pointed out this link five weeks ago.

“The data suggests that reliance on mass transit is connected with the early spread of virus cases and fatalities,” Chuck notes. “Texas may have been initially spared because our commuters don’t depend as much on mass transit as in other states, even in our major metropolitan areas.”

Great News!

What to Know: In a case argued by TPPF attorneys, a father is victorious before the Texas Supreme Court, which affirms that he shouldn’t have to share custody of his daughter with an unrelated man.

The TPPF Take: This is wonderful news for all Texas families.

“This decision is a decisive victory for the fundamental right of parents to direct the upbringing of their children free from outside interference,” says TPPF’s Andrew Brown. “The Texas Supreme Court affirmed that it is a fit parent, not the court, who determines what is in their child’s best interests.”
