How Are Public Schools Like Airplane Food?

Still hungry: Students in public schools across the country are being starved by scanty academic standards that often place more emphasis on “intersectionality” and “activism” than the treasures of Western civilization.

  • “In K-12 (primary and secondary) schools in the U.S., academic standards are the equivalent of airline food…. The standards are broad, often lacking details—but, like airline passengers, teachers and students are a captive audience with few alternatives,” writes Jonathan Butcher, acting director of the Center for Education Policy.
  • Putting the “haute cuisine” of education—classical content—back on the menu is part of the solution.

Why Are Chinese Nationals Getting Visa Waivers?

Unacceptable: An increasing number of Chinese nationals have entered the U.S. without visas due to a special program.

  • “Given the unique range of threats China presents to the U.S., from military to economic to illegal migration, Chinese nationals should be required to get a visa to visit the U.S.,” writes Simon Hankinson, senior research fellow in the Border Security and Immigration Center.
