Happy Labor Day, John!
Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer, a time to celebrate with family and friends. But it is also a celebration of the working people who built this country and keep it running each and every day. |
Generations of workers fought for the 40-hour work week, fair wages, and worker protections. These rights were earned through sacrifice and solidarity.
Today, while Republican extremists side with corporate interests over working families, Connecticut Democrats are standing firm with workers across our state. This year we have: - Expanded paid sick leave so workers no longer have to choose between their paycheck and caring for themselves or a loved one.
-
Improved warehouse conditions so companies like Amazon can’t take advantage of their workers with unsafe productivity quotas. Bathroom and meal breaks are basic rights, not luxuries.
-
Enforced retirement security by fining businesses that fail to enroll employees in the state-funded retirement program, helping more workers build a stable future.
Every single one of these laws puts power back into the hands of the people because we believe working families deserve someone in their corner, fighting for safe workplaces, fair paychecks, and affordable health care every single day.
This Labor Day, we celebrate the dignity of work, the resilience of working families, and the progress we’ve made together. Wishing you and your family a Happy Labor Day, Adrienne Billings-Smith Vice Chair |
