Transit Month starts TODAY! |
|
|
It's that time of year again! This September, join us in celebrating the buses, trains, and people that make the wonderful transit system we all know and ride.
For this year’s Transit Month, San Francisco Transit Riders (SFTR) and Seamless Bay Area (SBA) are challenging everyone to hop on board to discover new adventures they can access through transit.
There are 60+ exciting events taking place across the Bay Area this September! Transit Month is a great opportunity to build community, explore the Bay Area, raise awareness about the importance of keeping our region moving through transit, and get involved in the local organizations in your area. Whether you want to join a group for a transit-accessible hike or bike ride, grab a drink at a casual social, chat with CEOs of transit agencies, ride on historic streetcars, take transit to visit a museum, or join dozens of other events, there is an event for everyone!

This is your chance to interview your District Supervisor for this year's Transit Month! |
|
|
This year, our members have a special opportunity to get involved by engaging in one-on-one interviews with their district supervisors on board a Muni bus. Since we can only have a limited number of people on board, we're asking that you submit your best questions by clicking the button below. The members who leave the most relevant, engaging, and thought-provoking questions will be invited on board a vintage streetcar to interview their Supervisor directly.
If you're interested in volunteering at other Transit Month events, fill out this form. |

Join us at the SFMTA Board meeting on Tuesday, September 2nd, to demand an overturn of Mayor Lurie's decision to welcome cars onto Market St! Keep Market St Moving Coalition
Mayor Lurie recently announced that Uber and Lyft Black cars, in addition to Waymos, would begin driving on Market Street starting August 26. This move goes against the SFMTA Board’s decision in 2019 to remove cars from Market Street in order to decrease traffic congestion, improve transit speed and reliability, increase safety, and create a more welcoming and sustainable downtown. This plan will also undermine years of progress toward a more efficient transit system and slow down Muni, which has seen a remarkable 14% increase in speed and efficiency on Market since the removal of cars.
RSVP here, and we will follow up with talking points and keep you posted on any timing changes as we await a final meeting agenda. |

Last Chance: Tax Corporations to Save Transit! Voices for Public Transportation Coalition
Right now, the Legislature is considering Senate Bill 63 (SB 63), which would authorize a five-county ballot measure to raise money for our transit agencies. As written, it only authorizes a sales tax. But data actually shows that a gross receipts tax on the top 2% of businesses will in fact raise more money than a sales tax, while not asking everyday people like you to pay more. Bay Area Forward's polling shows that a gross receipts tax has significantly higher support than a sales tax.
All we are asking the legislature to do is add the option for a gross receipts tax to SB 63. But they need to hear from YOU.
Contact your Assemblymember BEFORE Friday, September 5th, here. |

Tell Mayor Lurie: Keep Market Street Safe and Car-Free! Keep Market St Moving Coalition Market Street is ripe for reimagining – but cars aren’t the answer. In response to Mayor Lurie's decision to allow Waymos on Market Street, San Francisco Transit Riders has joined the Keep Market St Moving Coalition. Since cars were removed from Market Street, buses and streetcars have become significantly faster and more reliable. The street is also significantly safer. Injury collisions are down 40% since private vehicles were removed. Send an email now to show Mayor Lurie how many San Franciscans support keeping Market Street moving.
