John,Last month, I traveled across southern New Mexico, and I met with the people who keep this country running.
From workers in recovery building a second chance, to seniors still showing up for their communities, to small business owners, union members, and researchers shaping the future — one thing was clear: New Mexicans are showing up every day.
They’re working hard, raising families, and they’re building lives with pride — even when the odds are stacked against them.
They are the backbone of our economy, not just here in New Mexico, but across the country. But right now, Washington is failing them.
The people at the top are much more interested in chaos than in common sense. They’re pushing policies that leave working families to fend for themselves — while billionaires and corporations get more handouts.
That’s not how we build a strong economy. And it’s not how we build a country that works for all of us.
This Labor Day, I’m proud to stand with unions and the labor movement that have always fought to make this country fairer for working people.
Because it wasn’t corporations that gave us weekends, safer workplaces, or a minimum wage — it was organized workers demanding dignity, respect, and a voice on the job.
