Throughout June, you’ve heard from members of Verified Voting’s team, and as we close out our fiscal year, meet Board Chair Dr. Barbara Simons. We hope you’ll support us with a gift as we work to making our elections secure and verifiable:

Over the past few weeks, you’ve had the chance to hear from some (though by no means all) of Verified Voting’s staff in their own words. As Verified Voting’s board chair, I remember when this organization was still the vision of a handful of computer scientists. I’m proud to say there’s no team I’d rather turn to than the VV experts who spend every day addressing the multitude of new issues that have confronted us in this critical election year - and to dedicated supporters like you, who share our belief that election security has a critical role to play in strengthening our democracy.

It will take all of us working together to prevent what we’ve seen in the primaries from recurring in the general election. With technical malfunctions, structural inequities, and the looming threat of interference joined by the challenges of conducting elections in the midst of a pandemic, one thing I can say for sure about the 2020 general election is that we need to prepare for the unexpected.

Today marks the end of Verified Voting’s fiscal year. More importantly, it brings us one month closer to the end of this critical summer window where we can still put best practices and processes in place that will allow all voters to have their ballots counted as cast. Before midnight tonight, I hope I can count on you to make a commitment toward our goal to Validate 2020.

While it’s easy to lose track of how far we’ve come in the past year, there have been some impressive successes: fighting back the expansion of insecure internet voting proposals, pushing for funding to replace paperless machines with paper ballots, and partnering with election officials to plan the audits that validate the tabulation results. As a California voter, I’m proud of the role we’ve played on the state’s COVID-19 election task force, where we’ve worked to provide recommendations on effectively administering the general election and to ensure that all voters receive a paper ballot. As a citizen who knows where the eyes of the nation will be in November, I’m also proud of our efforts to expand audits in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and other swing states.

But there is so much more to do, and what happens this November depends on the choices we make now: the technology we deploy, the manner in which it is deployed, and the resiliency and recovery measures put in place to deal with even the most unlikely threats. I hope you’ll choose to join us with a contribution today, and help us prepare for what lies ahead.
