John,
Young progressives are rising — but instead of lifting them up, Democratic leaders are trying to shut them out.
Candidates like Zohran Mamdani in New York City and Omar Fateh in Minneapolis are running groundbreaking, working-class campaigns that are actually energizing voters in a time when so many are disillusioned after the 2024 elections. But Democratic elites are refusing to support them.
In Minneapolis, the Democratic Farmer-Labor Party initially endorsed Omar Fateh for mayor at the state convention in July, but party insiders later rescinded its endorsement. Justice Democrats-endorsed Rep. Ilhan Omar signed onto a letter with other local leaders calling this “a stain on our party for years to come,“ and said, “It is inexcusable to overturn the results weeks after the convention because board members did not like the outcome.”
In New York City, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries have so far refused to endorse Zohran Mamdani — the Democratic nominee for mayor in their own city, who’s surging in the polls.
The establishment is sabotaging our future, John.
Corporate Democrats would rather shoot the party in the foot than embrace young, progressive candidates with bold ideas who have the power to excite voters and deliver real change. We have no doubt that this is how the establishment will handle Congressional races, as well.
That’s why Justice Democrats exists. Our mission is to elect unapologetic, working-class leaders who will transform the Democratic Party into one that finally fights for all of us.
Next year’s elections are a major test for us. We have new congressional candidates like Donavan McKinney in MI-13 we need to elect. We have fearless incumbents to defend. We need your help to grow our power and win.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
