From the earliest organizing movements to today’s workforce, this holiday reminds us of the dignity of work and the generations of men and women who fought for better conditions, fair wages, and greater opportunities. On Long Island, working families, union members, and small business employees are the backbone of our community. Their dedication makes our towns stronger and our future brighter. Andrew wishes everyone in NY-02 a safe and restful Labor Day weekend and extends his gratitude to all who will be on the job while others enjoy time with loved ones. WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Andrew Hosts Annual Back to School Event in Bay Shore Andrew joined community partners and friends to host his annual Back to School event in Bay Shore, where more than 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies were provided to families from across the community and beyond. The event gave children the tools they need for a strong start to the new school year while also bringing neighbors together in support of students and parents. A special thank you goes to the Bay Shore Fire Department for hosting, as well as to Suffolk Credit Union, the Good Foundation, Promise of Hope, the Suffolk PBA, Suffolk SOA, and SCCOA for their support. Their partnership helped make the day extra special for local children. Andrew was also joined by Assemblyman Gandolfo, the Suffolk County Police Department Hockey Team, the Suffolk Sheriff’s Hockey Team, and the NYPD Hockey Team, who came together to support Long Island families and celebrate the community spirit of Bay Shore. 13th Annual Tree Lighting “On the Wings of Hope” The Bayport–Blue Point Public Library hosted the 13th Annual Tree Lighting, On the Wings of Hope, in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day. The event brought together families, community leaders, and advocates to honor the lives lost to overdose and to support those impacted by the opioid crisis. Andrew is committed to supporting individuals and families impacted by addiction and will continue working with local organizations and community leaders to raise awareness, expand access to treatment, and provide resources for those in need. CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Resolving ERC Refund Delays A local car dealership contacted Andrew’s office after experiencing long delays with their Employee Retention Credit (ERC) refunds. Andrew's casework team engaged with the IRS on their behalf, assisting with updated documentation and working to move the process forward. As a result, the dealership’s pending refunds were released and the case was successfully resolved. Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need from the government. If you need help dealing with a federal agency, contact our office and our team will get to work on your case. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Andrew Introduces Counter-UAS Authority Security, Safety, and Reauthorization Act Keeping our skies safe from rogue drones is a growing challenge for law enforcement, airports, and critical infrastructure. This week, Andrew introduced H.R. 5061, the Counter-UAS Authority Security, Safety, and Reauthorization Act. The bill gives responsible agencies clearer tools to detect and stop dangerous drones while protecting privacy and civil liberties. The legislation improves coordination with the FAA, sets safety standards for approved counter-UAS technology, and creates training and reporting requirements so the public knows these authorities are used carefully and effectively. It also supports pilot programs that help state and local partners protect large events and high risk sites, from airports and energy facilities to stadiums and community gatherings.
