==============================

August 19 was World Humanitarian Day, a day to honor those who have dedicated their lives to helping people in crisis. This year, it felt especially poignant as the humanitarian sector grapples with increasing attacks on aid workers against the backdrop of escalating global crises and unprecedented funding cuts.

2024 was the deadliest year on record for aid workers and sadly, this year is tracking to set a new grim milestone. In Gaza, an airstrike hit just outside one of our health clinics, killing 16 people - including 10 children. In Ukraine, Russian drones have targeted Project HOPE-supported medical vehicles on two separate occasions, resulting in the death of a beloved physician.

Humanitarian workers are not - and must never be - targets.

Every day we are grateful to the brave people who risk their lives to deliver lifesaving aid in crisis zones around the world. And this month especially, we honor all the aid workers who continue to dedicate their lives to serving others.

Especially during the darkest moments, we look to the helpers -- our brave aid workers and generous supporters who make Project HOPE's work possible. Their generosity powers our mission to deliver urgent relief with lasting impact where it's needed most.

A World Without Humanitarian Aid

A world without humanitarian aid is one where one child survives, and another does not. Where your choice is to drink unclean water, or nothing. Where we have the means to end suffering but choose not to. But it's not a world we have to accept. A world that invests in humanitarian aid is a different path where everyone deserves the same chance to live a full, healthy life. We put together this visual journey of the critical difference humanitarian aid makes in our world.

8 Ways to Transform Maternal Health

Too many women and newborns are dying from preventable causes. The world does not lack solutions to maternal and neonatal mortality rates, but it does lack sufficient investment and action. Access to quality health care is a human right, yet compounding crises - war, economic instability, and pandemics - make it increasingly difficult to implement effective solutions. These 8 strategies can significantly reduce mortality rates, even in low-resource health settings.

The Ripple Effects of Vaccine Regression

Global vaccine rates are falling in large part due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is already resulting in serious consequences, triggering outbreaks of preventable diseases like measles and polio. This also puts a strain on health care systems and drives up health care costs, threatening more lives, leaving children under 5 the most vulnerable. Read more about the far-reaching and deadline impacts of a continued decline in vaccinations.

Reflections from Rabih's Visit to Ukraine

Project HOPE President & CEO Rabih Torbay was recently on the ground with our team in Ukraine and noted the contrast since he was last there in 2022, just weeks after Russia's full-scale invasion. "What hadn't changed, though, was the spirit, heart, and resiliency of the Ukrainian people. Everywhere I went, I encountered bravery and compassion. I am deeply proud of this team and everything they have accomplished." Here are his personal reflections from his recent visit.
