Good morning! I hope your Sunday is looking as bright and beautiful as mine!

We've had beautiful late-summer weather here and I've very much enjoyed sitting outside and taking short walks.

That's right! I said "walks." I have been taking a couple of quick little jaunts around the apartment complex with my rollator to try and regain some muscle and fitness. So far, I'm only going a quarter mile each time, but I have to start somewhere. I love being outside for a walk. It's been so very long since I have been able to enjoy something like this.

On a sadder note, my heart breaks for those affected by the parochial school shooting in Minnesota. Those poor children who are lost, those who were physically harmed, and those who are traumatized are in my prayers.

I wonder how we keep missing the burgeoning mental illnesses of our young people. How are we not seeing the danger signs? I think the flames of these illnesses are being fanned online. There are dark people and dark places on the internet, and many of these shooters seem to have found them. Then, in real life, their delusions are supported as "brave choices," medications not meant for them are loaded on board, and violence erupts, either in self-harm or the harm of others. I feel for these kids, too.

I find myself so glad I didn't grow up with the internet. I was a nerdy little kid who didn't have many friends, and often found myself the target of bullies. I was teased mercilessly and relentlessly at school, but at least I was able to come home and get a break from that. I read books constantly and found myself wrapped up in the embrace of countless mysteries, fantasies, and biographies. When I was reading stories of faraway places or the stories of people who achieved magnificent things, I found respite.

Kids now simply do not have that. Not only are some of them bullied at school, but the bullying follows them everywhere they go, on their phones and laptops. The online world is honestly no place for children and teens, this I fervently believe. I'm so glad that I raised my daughters mostly without it. (My youngest was a teen at the very beginning of kids being glued to their phones, while it still seemed possible to keep them away from constant contact with others.)

This week and the next, we are moving to a less expensive server. If you find that the website is down, please rest assured, it's only a temporary glitch while content is being relocated. I am hoping that this change will not affect the performance of the website but if it does, please be patient as we get everything fixed up.

I hope you have a lovely long weekend!

Stay safe.

Be happy.

Love,

Daisy
