Today’s announcement by the Queensland Premier will have seen hundreds of Gold Coast business owners breathe a sigh of relief - with Friday 10 July [[link removed]] locked in to open the borders with all states, except Victoria.

For too long, uncertainty surrounded the date [[link removed]?] on when the border closures would be lifted. Finally, we have some clarity and I thank Gold Coast businesses for their patience and persistence during these challenging times.

It is now time for everyone to do what they can to support our local businesses [[link removed]], by shopping locally and buying Australian Made [[link removed]?]. If you are a manufacturer or producer of Aussie made goods – I encourage you to apply to carry the famous Australian Made logo [[link removed]].

We are continuing to witness terrific innovation from Australian businesses, including Kestral Manufacturing [[link removed]], Milly Hill Meats [[link removed]?] and Stagekings Australia [[link removed]].

We have many ‘true blue’ companies right here on the Gold Coast, including Ugg Since 1974 [[link removed]]. I recently visited their Miami factory [[link removed]?] where they have been able to keep on all their staff, despite having no international visitors coming through their doors.

I enjoyed getting back out and about in the electorate this month - visiting local businesses [[link removed]?], which have opened their doors just metres from my office [[link removed]] - showing great courage during these uncertain times.

There was also cause for celebration! After years of campaigning [[link removed]?], the M1 upgrades through Mudgeeraba and Varsity Lakes [[link removed]] are finally complete - reducing congestion through the notorious bottleneck. Works are now underway for the final southern stretch from Varsity Lakes to Tugun [[link removed]?], with that $1b project due to be completed by early 2024.

Those who use the M1 every day will be glad to see the border blockades taken down in coming days. I urge everyone to invite your friends and family to holiday on the Gold Coast - to kick-start our economy and bring the tourists back to Australia's Tourism Capital!

Take care,
