Warehouse giant Costco is caving to pressure from right-wing, anti-science
groups by refusing to dispense the safe and effective abortion drug
mifepristone nationwide, including at its more than 130 California
pharmacies.(1,2) [ [link removed] ]Can you take a minute right now to call on Costco’s
Board of Directors to change course?

California has been leading the fight to expand access to medication
abortion, with California Attorney General Rob Bonta petitioning the FDA
to remove barriers to accessing mifepristone, the safe and effective
medication used in medication abortion.(3)

Thanks to mass mobilization from reproductive rights advocates (including
Courage California!), major pharmacies, including CVS and Walgreens,
continue to offer mifepristone.(4) We know that our voices are louder than
the anti-abortion right, which is why we must all speak out now in support
of abortion access for all.

Costco has cited “weak demand” as the reason for its decision. But
religious groups Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) and Inspire Investing
have waged a nationwide campaign to block access to abortion medication,
and we can't let Costco cave to that pressure.(5)

Corporations can’t be allowed to dictate whether women have access to safe
and effective abortion medication. As state governments throw up abortion
bans in states nationwide, adding corporate hurdles will only further harm
pregnant women. And, if we allow ADF’s campaign to succeed, it will only
embolden them to go after more pharmacies nationwide.

Costco has long championed policies that put people first. They are known
for their strong commitment to workers and their recent support of DEI
programs in the face of rampant attacks by the Trump administration.(6,7)
Together, we can speak out and remind them that part of their commitment
to their workers and consumers includes allowing them to have access to
safe, effective, and necessary medication!
