Dear Friend --

The City announced today that, in alignment with Los Angeles County, Long Beach beaches will be closed to the public this Fourth of July weekend starting Friday, July 3 in the morning through Monday, July 6 in the morning in a proactive effort to limit the spread of COVID-19. This closure also includes piers, beach parking lots (except for permit holders), beach access ways, bathrooms and beach bike and pedestrian paths.

Due to the recent sharp increase in COVID-19 cases and the positivity rate in both Long Beach and Los Angeles County, and because beaches typically attract large gatherings, Long Beach beaches will close temporarily for both passive and active use. Beaches will reopen at 5:01 a.m. Monday, July 6.

The City encourages residents to celebrate safely <[link removed]> at home this Fourth of July, and suggest alternative ways to celebrate with members of one’s household, such as having a fireworks-free BBQ at home or a family-movie marathon. Events like fireworks shows, block parties and other types of large gatherings are not permitted, per the State of California Health Order. If celebrating with outdoor activities, City health officials remind residents to maintain at least a six-foot distance from other individuals not in the same household, wear a face covering over both your mouth and nose in all public and private places you could be, or are, in contact with members of other households, wash hands frequently and sanitize high-touch surfaces.

Thank you,

Mayor Robert Garcia
