Friend, before I ask you to help my team and I meet our next online fundraising goal before our upcoming deadline, [[link removed]] it's back-to-school season 📚 for me—this was my first week back on campus teaching at Hunter College! ⬇️

Between the redistricting saga roiling the country and the Supreme Court’s likely gutting of the Voting Rights Act this term, I can’t think of a better time to be teaching voting rights and the law of democracy.
This work is important to me, Friend. Now more than ever, I wholeheartedly believe that it's our responsibility to stand up for democratic norms and fight against the authoritarian power grab Trump is orchestrating across the country.
And that's why I'm proud of the work we’ve done in Albany to strengthen democracy and expand voting rights, like:
✅ Passing the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act to protect against voter intimidation and suppression and expanding language access at the polls.
✅ Enacting early voting so that you can vote at a time that is convenient for you.
✅ Expedite the counting of absentee ballots so we don’t have unnecessary delays in getting election results .
And when I’m not in Albany passing legislation to improve democracy, I’m working with leaders across the country to strategize on how we can fight back against the assault Trump is unleashing against free and fair elections.

I'm more than ready to continue this work, but my team and I need your help to lay the groundwork for our next campaign.
That begins with meeting our early fundraising goals, Friend, and unfortunately, we're still $2,098 short of what we need to raise online before the deadline.
Thanks to New York's public financing program, our campaign has the incredible opportunity to match qualifying small-dollar donations. Andrew Gounardes is a champion for the working class and middle class families that are the backbone of New York.
He’s passed more than 100 bills into law, including legislation to close a loophole in the state’s wage theft law, expand the life-saving school zone speed camera program, guarantee family death benefits for public workers who died from Covid-19, and help secure and expand benefits for 9/11 responders.
He is working to expand the Tuition Assistance Program to help make college more affordable for New York students and to dismantle the legal protections that allow perpetrators of workplace harassment and discrimination to prey on vulnerable workers.
He understands that every day quality of life issues affect the livability of our neighborhoods, which is why he’s fought to improve subway and bus service in the outer boroughs, make the MTA accessible for all riders, and to end the nuisance of modified car mufflers and exhausts with the SLEEP Act.
Andrew and his wife Melanie live in Bay Ridge, where they are raising their sons Evan and James.
Andrew is a graduate of local parochial and public schools, Hunter College - CUNY, and the George Washington University Law School. He is a founding member of the Hellenic-American Leadership Council.
