If you needed services from the Oklahoma Employment Securities Commission, you'd be camped outside their office right now prepared to sleep outside to receive the services you need.
That's been what folks have been doing. This is what the Oklahoma Employment Securities Commission looks like in the evenings.
Failing leadership is why they struggle. There's no telling how long they've been waiting. They lost their job because our Governor failed in his response to COVID. Now, his failure is on display again in grief stricken faces of those waiting outside through the night just to try to get the assistance they're due.
Failing leadership is why Oklahomans are going hungry. Right now. As you read this. Someone is wondering how they're going to afford to pay rent, feed their kids, and find another job. Someone is planning when they'll arrive on Sunday night to sleep outside the office in the hopes their government might hear them and provide them the bare minimum services they are owed.
Failing leadership is why all of this is happening. All of this was preventable. All of it is fixable. On the national level, and right here in Oklahoma. All it takes is an ounce of empathy. Our elected officials are there for no other reason than to serve the needs of our communities. The Republicans in office are failing repeatedly and leaving Oklahomans to sleep outside to beg for what their government should provide.
We can not afford another second of this.
Elect someone who gives a damn about you. There are plenty in the Democratic Party. Fight for them. Fight for your neighbors. If you can afford to make a contribution, now is the time. Those who need it the most can't do so themselves because they're outside the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission waiting for our failing Republican leadership to lift a finger for them.
Stand up for them.
