Dear friend,
The nation’s most important, high-impact farm animal welfare laws, adopted by voters in landslide elections, are being targeted by the National Pork Producers Council and its allies in Congress. We need your help to stop their multimillion-dollar plan to overturn American elections and to restore extreme confinement across the nation.
The NPPC, stung by its defeat before a conservative U.S. Supreme Court which upheld California’s landmark Proposition 12, is desperate to unwind our American laws. Their legislation—known as the Food Security and Farm Protection Act (formerly the EATS Act) in the Senate and the Save Our Bacon Act in the House—would nullify Proposition 12 and similar laws, and it would reverse the progress we’ve made over the last 25 years to get millions of mother pigs out of immobilizing cages so small that the animals cannot turn around for years on end.
The NPPC’s big partner in this lobbying push is China’s Smithfield Foods. In China, there are now hundreds of high-rise factory farms, some 30 stories tall, that cram pigs into cages such that the animals never get to move or see the light of day. That dystopian vision of agriculture is precisely what they want to bring to the American heartland.
Our recent report [[link removed]] from animal welfare scientists and economists exposes that this foreign-controlled industry is not only working to harm pigs but also thousands of family farmers who collectively invested billions of dollars in more humane housing systems. This whole Congressional scheme is about favoring foreign-owned conglomerates over American family farmers.
This dangerous legislation is a moral race to the bottom. Lawmakers driving this process want factory farming to reign in America.
That’s why our upcoming webinar on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 8:00 p.m. ET is so critical. Hosted by Animal Wellness Action and the Center for a Humane Economy, it’s titled “Farm Protection or Factory Farm Giveaway? Exposing the Threat of the Food Security and Farm Protection Act.”
You'll hear from me and other experts on our plan to fight this legislation.
What you’ll learn:
* How to push back against Big Ag’s power grab — clear steps you can take to defend animal welfare laws and protect your state’s authority.
* What’s really at stake in Congress — and how to make your voice heard with lawmakers before this dangerous bill advances.
* Ways to join a growing national movement — practical actions you can take right now to stop factory farms from erasing hard-won reforms.
