The Mississippi flag is down. I’ve been working in Mississippi politics for a long time, and I can’t tell you how big this is for our state!

As much as I’d like to celebrate this victory for the next week or two, I understand there is still much work to be done. This year, we have the rare opportunity to build off of this momentum to help elect candidates who will lead Mississippi into uncharted territory.

Cindy Hyde-Smith has been hiding in D.C. while the rest of us do the real work of trying to make this state a better place for everyone. Mike Espy won’t do that. Mike is a proven leader and a candidate who doesn’t shy away from the concerns and issues of voters.

Mike winning the U.S. Senate seat in November is the spark we need to change the landscape of Mississippi politics. Not just nationally — but locally and statewide. Communities all across Mississippi need this change.

Yesterday, I witnessed what happens when leadership acts and doesn’t stand by idly while the world moves on without us. We need leadership that’s not afraid to act, and when Mike is elected in November, there is no doubt that he’ll be the one who does that.
