John,
After weeks of political protest and resistance by Texas Democrats, Donald Trump and Greg Abbott have passed their racially gerrymandered maps through both the Texas House and Senate.
These maps are designed to protect Trump from accountability by silencing communities of color, suppressing the votes of millions of Black, Latino, and working-class Texans, and pushing progressive voices like mine out of Congress.
John, this is a tough moment for Texas, and our country. But I need you to hear this from me:
I’m not going anywhere. I’m officially running for re-election in Austin.
Trump and Abbott may want to redraw the lines to serve their agenda and silence our progressive movement, but I’ve spent my adult life standing shoulder to shoulder with working people in Austin, Texas — and I’m not backing down now.
This movement is too important. Our communities are too powerful. And our fight is far from over.
No matter how they redraw the lines, we will never stop fighting for our communities, for justice, and for progress.
In solidarity,
Greg
