There was a time when tragedies like the Clairton Coke Works explosion were common ([link removed]) in Pittsburgh. While deaths (and jobs) in the steel industry have plunged, occupational hazards persist.

The state’s most dangerous jobs are now in construction, transportation, oil and gas, and health care.

While safety measures have reduced traumatic injuries in the region's mills and mines, staff cuts in workplaces and in federal agencies could compromise those gains. ([link removed])
