john,

It started with Roe v. Wade.

In 2022, the Trump-packed Supreme Court overturned the right to abortion access, and, overnight, states across the country enacted extreme abortion bans that left women unsure about their future. Some states banned abortion as early as six weeks, before many women even know they are pregnant. Some states went so far as to threaten jail time for doctors who perform an abortion—even if it means saving the mother’s life.

Now, extreme Republicans are setting their sights on marriage equality.

A formal request has been sent to the Supreme Court to overturn marriage equality. Right now, there are nine states that have introduced legislation to end the right to same-sex marriage. Washington State was a proud supporter of marriage equality, even before the landmark Supreme Court decision affirming marriage equality.

Much like the case overturning abortion access, none of this is what the American people want. The vast majority of Americans think people should have the right to marry the person they love. Hard stop.

Families in Washington’s 8th district—and across the country—are worried about the cost of living, access to healthcare, keeping their small businesses afloat, making sure their kids get a good education, and securing federal investments for local projects. Yet Republicans are once again enacting their hateful agenda over the will of the people and attacking the rights we know are ours.

I’m fighting tooth and nail to protect our rights, and ensure our government brings back into focus the issues that we worry about every day. Will you please chip in toward my end-of-month fundraising deadline to help make sure I win and we take back the House so we can end the assault on our rights and get down to the business of making life better for all Americans?

john, rescinding marriage equality doesn’t solve a single one of the challenges we face every day. It doesn’t create jobs, it doesn’t lower prescription drug costs, and it certainly doesn’t make our communities safer. All it does is cause heartbreak and tear families apart.

Most importantly, this administration and its allies in Congress are setting a dangerous new precedent. Little by little, they are stripping away rights we thought were settled law. If they succeed, it will cost Americans their livelihoods, their freedom, and their futures.

We are slowly but surely being dragged back to a darker past, one where individual rights are not protected, and where politicians think they have the power to decide who you can love and how you live your life. Flipping the House is the best way to put a much-needed check on this administration, and keeping WA-08 blue is absolutely vital to making that happen.

I’m doing everything I can to fight back against this reckless agenda, and protect the rights you deserve, but I can’t do it without you. Before our end-of-month fundraising deadline, I’m hoping you will chip in $5 to ensure that we have what it takes to run another winning campaign and reject the Trump administration's blatant assault on our freedoms.
