Night Out for Safety and Liberation (NOSL) is a powerful gathering to reimagine what true safety looks like beyond policing, punishment, and fear. It’s a space to connect, reflect, and celebrate the strength of community care.

What is NOSL?
Night Out for Safety and Liberation (NOSL) is an annual national event that creates space for communities to redefine what safety means—beyond policing and punishment.
Held on the first Tuesday in August, NOSL is a powerful alternative to the traditional "National Night Out," which often centers law enforcement. Founded in 2013 by the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights in response to the killing of Trayvon Martin, NOSL uplifts the voices of Black, brown, Indigenous, LGBTQ+, immigrant, and other marginalized communities.
It centers healing, community resources, and collective power, reminding us that true safety is rooted in justice, care, connection, and equity—not surveillance or force. Through art, music, food, and political education, NOSL brings people together to build a future where everyone can feel safe, supported, and free.

¿Qué es NOSL?
Night Out for Safety and Liberation (NOSL) es un evento nacional anual que crea un espacio para que las comunidades redefinan el significado de la seguridad, más allá de la vigilancia policial y el castigo.
