I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap of what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in Texas' 22nd District Rep. Troy E. Nehls Meets with Houston Area Realtors This week, I had the privilege of meeting with Jo Ann Stevens and other Houston-area realtors in my Fulshear District Office to discuss their legislative priorities. Nehls Presents Service Medals to WWII Veterans' Daughter I was honored to present several medals to Susan Evans, the eldest daughter of Colonel Arthur Albert Martson, who served our country in World War II as a U.S. Army tank commander. Colonel Martson’s medals were lost during the tragic floods that took place in July 2025 in the Texas Hill Country. Through the work of my dedicated casework team, we were able to obtain replacement medals for his various service-related awards, including a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. Colonel Martson was wounded on March 16, 1945, and was awarded the Purple Heart. The Bronze Star was awarded on May 12, 1945, for his service in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany between November 8, 1944, and April 8, 1945. I’m grateful for Colonel Martson’s service to our great country. For any other questions, please call my District Office at 346-762-6600. Service Academy Nominations Are Now Open My office is now accepting Service Academy Nominations. One of the privileges of serving in the United States House of Representatives is the opportunity to nominate outstanding young people from the 22nd Congressional District of Texas to be considered for appointment to our nation’s service academies. Admission to a service academy is a two-tiered process. First, the candidate must meet the minimum standards set by the individual academy. Second, the candidate must complete the congressional application by October 10, 2025, to be considered for an interview in our office with the nomination review board. Please note that the ultimate selection of appointees rests solely with academy officials and is based on their competitive evaluation of all nominees. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump invite Americans from across the country to apply to help decorate the White House or perform during this year’s Christmas season. Volunteer decorators must be 18 or older and available the week of November 24-30. Please apply HERE. Performers of all ages, including choirs, bands, and solo acts, are encouraged to apply HERE. Applications are due by September 5, 2025, at 5:00 PM ET. Selected applicants will be notified by October 13, 2025. Volunteers will be responsible for their travel and lodging. This is a full-time opportunity lasting 120 days, designed for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as newly graduated high school and college students interested in gaining firsthand experience in public service. Interns will take on a wide range of responsibilities, offering a unique and educational perspective on the inner workings of a congressional district office. Nehls Announces the 2025 Congressional App Challenge I am pleased to announce that my office is hosting a 2025 Congressional App Challenge. The Congressional App Challenge (CAC) is a competition designed to encourage student participation in computer science and coding. Students are encouraged to register online and submit their app by October 30, 2025. Officially launched by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2015, this nationwide effort allows students to compete against their peers by creating an application (also known as an “app”) for desktop/PC, web, tablet, mobile, raspberry Pi or other devices. We accept any programming language, such as C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, or "block code." The Challenge is designed to promote innovation and engagement in computer science. The Congressional App Challenge is open to all middle and high school students in the 22nd Congressional District of Texas. Students entering the competition must submit their app to CongressionalAppChallenge.us during the Competition Submission Period, which ends October 20, 2025, at 12:00 P.M. Eastern Time. The winner from the 22nd Congressional District, chosen by a panel of expert judges, will be featured on CongressionalAppChallenge.us. The winning app will also be eligible to be on display in the U.S. Capitol, honoring the winners from across the country.
