Congress has been on August recess, but there has still been plenty of activity.
This week, several members of our team, led by President Emeritus Rob Sisson, were on the ground in Montana, hosting a conference focused on the future of Ameria’s wildlife corridors. It was an important chance to bring together conservation professionals, policy makers and experts, and community leaders to discuss how privately held lands play a critical role in maintaining wildlife movement and ecological connectivity. We also inaugurated the Peacock awards, honoring three well-deserving conservation leaders. You can read more about the event here.
Earlier this month, Natural Resources Policy Advisor Dan Mahoney authored a piece for the Bozeman Daily Chronicle on why Congressman Zinke’s Habitat Connectivity on Working Lands Act is must-pass legislation. As members return to session, we’ll be keeping a close eye on where this legislation heads. Additionally, ConservAmerica Board Member Todd Myers appeared in the Tri-City Herald to write about how Snake River salmon are thriving despite the critics who claimed the Lower Snake River dams would drive them to extinction. It has been almost two months since Congress passed - and President Trump signed into law - the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. In connection with the Treasury Department’s implementation of that bill, ConservAmerica President Jeff Kupfer sent a letter to Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy Ken Kies pointing out the need for a predictable and fair tax code in order to support business confidence and private sector investment. We urged that any changes to the “safe harbor” rules in the clean electricity tax credits be prospective only, and we were pleased that the new Treasury guidance was consistent with that principle.
This month, we also joined with a U.S. Chamber-led coalition to submit comments to the EPA in support of repealing the Biden administration’s Clean Power Plan. In addition, we participated in the Working Group on U.S. Nuclear Energy Dominance, which released a report recommending policies to enable America to regain global nuclear energy leadership.
Together, these efforts reflect our ongoing commitment to advancing a durable, market-based, all-of-the-above approach to our country’s energy challenges.
