Millions of students will start school bans smartphones this year as states continue restricting personal device use in schools.

Twenty new states have passed legislation this year limiting the use of smartphones, tablets and other wireless devices in public schools.

Now, eleven states — Arizona, California, Florida, Iowa, Indiana, North Carlina, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, Utah and West Virginia — prohibit smartphone use during class.

Another fourteen — New York, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas and Vermont — and the District of Columbia have passed “bell-to-bell” device bans forcing students to turn off and store personal tech during school hours. 

The wave of regulation reflects lawmakers and parents’ growing alarm over the effects of ubiquitous smartphones on children’s education.

“[Kids aren’t] developing the skills [they] need because they are distracted with the cell phones,” New York Governor Kathy Hochul defended New York’s “bell-to-bell” ban in March.

“Our teachers [are] trying to teach algebra and geography, and they’re competing with viral dances and messages from their friends, and sometimes threats [and] bullying.”

Nearly all available research supports Hochul’s take. A 2023 study from Common Sense Media found nearly 97% of teens use their smartphones during school hours — mostly to play video games, scroll social media or watch pornography.

On August 14, Costco quietly announced that it would not be selling dangerous abortion pills in its pharmacies, citing a lack of demand.

The pro-life community celebrated the news as one step in a long-term, multi-pronged effort to protect preborn human life.

What makes this moment especially significant is that it wasn’t just a spontaneous corporate decision made in a vacuum — it was the result of strategic and faithful persistence by pro-life shareholders and investors pushing back on Big Abortion demands to access the megaretailers’ pharmacies.

This type of successful pro-life investor and shareholder advocacy demonstrates that principled voices can influence even the largest companies, and that cultural change doesn’t just happen in courts or legislatures, but in American boardrooms, too.

Costco, and its 500 pharmacies nationwide, now join a growing list of retailers that have decided not to carry the deadly chemical abortion pills.

In January and February of this year, respectively, Walmart and Kroger confirmed they will not sell Mifepristone. In December 2024, Sam’s Club confirmed it does not carry the abortion pill.

These major retailers are responding, in part, to a multi-year campaign effort by faith-based investors led by Inspire Investing and legal advocates at Alliance Defending Freedom to keep abortion pills off the shelves.

Almost 1.3 million criminal incidents occurred at schools across the nation from 2020 to 2024, a new FBI report finds.

Crime in Schools: 2020-2024 reports there were 1.5 million offenses against people and property, 1.5 million victims of crimes and 1.25 million known offenders associated with those incidents.

In a Fox News opinion piece on the FBI report, school choice activist Corey DeAngelis explained why the actual number of crimes is probably much higher than 1.3 million.

“The kicker is that this figure is almost certainly an undercount. In 2024, only about 9,000 law enforcement agencies submitted data to the FBI for the report, even though there are roughly 18,000 of these agencies nationwide.”

“That under reporting means we’re only getting a partial picture that likely misses hundreds of thousands more incidents from excluded jurisdictions.

“The real number of crimes in America’s schools is undoubtedly much higher, painting an even grimmer portrait of the system.”

In addition, some schools handle minor offenses internally, without reporting to law enforcement officials.

DeAngelis, author of The Parent Revolution: Rescuing Your Kids from the Radicals Ruining Our Schools, noted the crime analysis is an important argument for educational freedom, “Competition forces schools to prioritize safety to attract and retain families.”

Most people assume motherhood and the life of wives is one of drudgery, endless chores and meeting the needs of others. Few believe married motherhood leads to greater happiness. We presume it’s the carefree, single girls — not tied down by children or wedlock — who are having all the fun and fulfillment.

But is this really true? Daily Citizen has addressed this question often. The fact is married moms are the happiest and most contented in life compared to their unmarried and childless peers.

A new report from the great scholars at the Institute for Family Studies, led by San Diego State University’s Jean W. Twenge, further demonstrates how true this fact is. In fielding the Women’s Well-Being Survey (WWS) of 3,000 U.S. women in early March, these family scholars sought to understand why married mothers are the happiest among women.

This team reports, “Consistent with previous surveys, our new survey finds that married mothers are happier than unmarried women or women without children.”

In fact, they found, “Nearly twice as many married mothers say they are ‘very happy’ as unmarried women without children.”

Remarkably, 47% of married mothers report their “life is enjoyable most or all of the time.”

Forty-three percent of married women without children indicated this was true. Only 40% of unmarried mothers and 34% of unmarried women without children said their life was highly enjoyable.
