Dear Friend,
Twenty years ago, floodwaters swallowed New Orleans. A city was destroyed. Families were torn apart. Pets clung to rooftops, trapped in the wreckage of Hurricane Katrina.
In Chicago, PAWS volunteers couldn’t stand by. They packed five vans, drove through the night, and arrived at an overcrowded Arkansas shelter—where frightened animals waited, abandoned and alone.
The moment those vans pulled back into Chicago, carrying the first group of rescued dogs and cats, a new chapter of PAWS’ history began. It was more than a rescue—it was the birth of a lifesaving legacy.
Since that night, PAWS Chicago has answered the call again and again—rushing into hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and even international abuse cases. Always with the same promise: to save pets when the world around them falls apart.

Today, 20 years later, as we reflect on the devastation and remember all that was lost, we pay tribute to the human spirit, the heroism, resilience, and sustained transformation that emerged in the aftermath of tragedy. From the darkest moments, lasting legacies are born.
Support to the Disaster Relief Fund ([link removed]) ensures that PAWS Chicago is there when the next disaster strikes.
Thank you for standing with pets when they need you most.
