US District Judge Kathleen Williams ordered the state of Florida and the Trump regime to immediately stop locking up new detainees in their ballyhooed, 5,000-capacity facility and to wind down operations there within 60 days, marking a both welcomed and unceremonious end to Trump's cruelty-is-the-point concentration camp in the alligator-infested Everglades. Turns out the construction of the site apparently violated federal law requiring public input, consideration of alternative sites, and a pesky environmental impact statement. A quarter-billion-dollar oopsie, if you will. Looking forward to watching Donald and DeSantis fight over who ultimately foots that hefty bill.

ICE gives no-bid SUV contract to Republican donor with a history of fraud
As ICE expands its operations in Washington, DC, buoyed by new funding from the recently passed, giant bill of bullshit, Trump associates already seem to be cashing in. According to a new contracting document, ICE awarded $2.25 million for 25 Chevrolet Tahoe SUVs — about $90,000 per vehicle — to Hendrick Motorsports LLC, owned by prolific Republican donor Joseph Riddick "Rick" Hendrick III. The contract, rather than being competed and awarded to the lowest bidder, or purchased through an existing government program, was awarded under a sole-source contract, because of "unusual and compelling urgency." Hendrick, who owns the nation’s largest privately held auto dealerships, has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Republican candidates and committees and successfully petitioned Trump for a pardon for his nephew, James Austin Hayes, on the MAGA cult leader's final day in office in 2021. Hayes had been convicted for his involvement in an insider trading ring, and was alleged to have profited $176,000. Neat! Jackbooted fascism brought to you by white collar crooks.

Trump cuts another $5 billion in foreign aid using controversial tactic not seen since 1977
The Trump regime informed Congress late Thursday that it would proceed with what is known as a "pocket rescission," a tactic that allows a president to present a funding clawback so late in the fiscal year that Congress has little chance to stop it. The controversial maneuver, which has not been tried since 1977, will inexplicably allow the MAGA cult leader to kill $3.2 billion in already-allotted USAID development assistance and nearly $838 million in peacekeeping contributions. The legality of Trump’s maneuver is on shaky ground. The Government Accountability Office, Congress’s own watchdog, has long argued that pocket rescissions are illegal under the 1974 Impoundment Control Act, which limits a president’s ability to unilaterally block spending. Maybe it's time for another strongly worded letter from Democrats?
