The Transgender Law Center, ACLU of Texas, and Baker McKenzie have filed a federal lawsuit challenging S.B. 12 on behalf of GSA Network, Students Engaged in Advancing Texas (SEAT), a teacher, and a student and her parent. They seek to stop the law because it violates constitutional rights.
S.B. 12 imposes a uniform political ideology across schools and silences the diversity that strengthens our communities. It prohibits activities like events celebrating Black, Latine, Asian, and Indigenous history; staff trainings on inclusion; and student groups like GSAs. The law even restricts after-school programs, field trips, informal guidance, and educators’ private speech. Schools must be safe spaces where all students are seen, supported, and celebrated. We oppose laws like S.B. 12 and advocate for environments that affirm every student's identity.
Thank you for standing with us to keep schools places of learning, safety, and acceptance. Together, we will ensure all young people have the freedom to learn and determine their own futures.
In community,
